Volvo Penta Forward Drive V6-FWD is a fully integrated package, powered by the 6‐cylinder, 4.3‐liter, freshwater‐cooled, direct‐injected gasoline engine with catalyst. Paired with the well-matched FWD Duoprop drive, this package provides versatility, reduced noise levels, lower emission levels, and strong acceleration.

Compact and lightweight design

The compact engine-drive design facilitates installation. With an aluminum cylinder block and head, low-friction, lightweight pistons, and a cast-aluminum oil pan, the engine provides an improved power-to-weight ratio.

Direct injection technology

The direct injection fuel system enables a high compression ratio, extracting more energy from each drop of fuel. This contributes to reduced fuel consumption and emission levels.

Variable valve timing

With variable valve timing, the movement of each intake and exhaust valve is adjusted for speed and load. This ensures consistent combustion across varying rpm, contributing to improved torque and acceleration throughout the rpm range.

Freshwater‐cooled engine

The freshwater cooling system is designed to extend engine lifespan and improve performance. The closed-loop system prevents seawater exposure inside the engine, reducing corrosion and contributing to improved engine durability and resale value.

Forward Drive

The forward-facing, Duoprop twin counter-rotating propellers operate in undisturbed water to provide strong thrust, stable tracking, and faster acceleration. Together, the FWD drive and gasoline engine complete the propulsion system with reduced noise and low-level vibration.
